Dogs, Cats, Horses...We Love Them All!

We have a long history with domesticated animals and even the nay Sayers cant deny their roll in society past and present.

There is evidence that as long as 10,000 years ago the Native Americans had domesticated dogs as depicted in early rock paintings. Apparently, the dogs in the painting look remarkably like the Carolina dogs of today.

It has been well documented that dogs and horses of past have been bred to assist us in various ways whether it be pack dog, work horse, hunter or herder. There is no doubt that they have value and have contributed to society in many ways.

The cat however is a very interesting animal indeed. I have yet to see a cat that can herd, or help with the hunt or carry supplies on their backs for us. The cat is strictly a companion to us, that is if they decide to allow you to be graced with their presence. Most cats still have that strong hunting urge as evidenced by your cats offering of that bird he just caught or mouse he brings to you. Most cats get attached to an area that they claim as their own. Some cats get very attached to the people who love them but as a general rule I think the cat feels he is the one who rules and he is allowing you to care for him. Still, we love them.

Horses are a special breed and have a tremendous ability to assist us in ways as only the horse can. Horses have been our mode of transportation much longer than our current ways of getting around. They are to me of such beauty, grace, and power and I always think of them in that way much more than an animal that works for us. They are spectacular.

Dogs however are by far the most domesticated of all animals. They not only help us but they are so genuinely attached to people and their antics are a constant source of pleasure to us. Just look at children or elderly people in an old folks home. If a child finds a stray dog they will surely beg you to allow them to keep the dog. If you take a dog into an old folks home you can see the dog respond happily around them and the smiles on peoples faces are a joy to see.

I had a Springer Spaniel when I was younger and he was the funniest, most easy- going dog around. He was unusual in that he had a very special relationship with our guinea pig. We had the best time watching these two at play. It was the same every day. The guinea pig would wait at the hallway entrance and would stay there until the dog noticed. Then the chase was on! The dog would bark and chase him all the way down the hall. The guinea pig at the last minute would veer to the left and run into the bedroom and go under the bed. The dog was big and somewhat clumsy and would never be able to slow down in time and hed crash into the wall, get up and then go put his nose under the bed and bark. They would do this four or five times in a row and then curl up together and sleep. Those two made us laugh. It was great!

We love our animals, as it should be. Be kind and take well care of them.

Skinsaving Secrets for Women Who Train (II)

In previous section of this article you have 6 tips related to what women who train need to do to keep their skin in fine form. Here are 6 more.

7. Be simple with your skin regimen. Use products that are specific to your skin type. Oily skin, for example, can benefit from small amounts of alcohol or astringents. Dry skin, on the other hand, requires more moisturizers and emollients. Read the ingredients on the product label before using it.

8. Use a night moisturizer for dry or sensitive skin. Small wrinkles and fine lines can also be held in check by night creams and moisturizers.

9. Try using self tanning creams instead of getting tan the traditional way and running the risk of skin cancer. Many tanning creams on the market can give you the "look" of a new tan.

10. Focus. "Fitness buffs need to care about their skin as much as they do their muscles. Don't neglect skin care. Your body can look great, but who cares if your face is prematurely aged?"

11. Cleanse before bedtime. Never, never, never go to bed without cleansing your face. No matter how tired you are, how many sets you've done that day, or how many minutes you've spent on the Lifecycle, consider this the last daily exercise you must perform. Letting bacteria sit on the face overnight will only age your skin.

12. Go to the pros. If you have a skin problem, go to a professional an esthetician or dermatologist, not a salesperson at a store. You wouldn't go to a barbell salesman to train your body, why give less consideration to the background and training of the person who will help you get your skin in shape?

iPod Accessories - Prioritise on Function, Not On Show

To quench your relentless thirst for music, the electronic industry has invented iPod. Now, you can ensure that you have your music with you, no matter how much you roam about and where you go. But to provide you with non-stop music, your iPod needs the help of some accessories. Speakers and head phones are among the most important iPod accessories one needs to carry.

In fact, the invention of iPod has given birth to a new trend in the consumer electronics industry and made many companies rush to manufacture accessories for the little portable device. The main aim is to meet the consumer need of taking music with them anywhere they go. And the first step towards making iPod accessories has resulted in the introduction of wireless speakers and head phones.

In fact, both these accessories allow the user more freedom of movement. The next important iPod accessories are certainly the cases and skins. Here is a device that is light, chic and prone to scratches. Moreover, the built of an iPod demands that it should be taken care of seriously. In your want to handle the lovely device delicately, the cases and the skin render valuable help.

So, if you do think that the safety of your iPod is more important then its display, then encase it with a protective cover. It may be highly appealing, but the cases also do not lag far behind. Once you enter the market to buy iPod accessories, you will be amazed to find how attractive and appealing devices are waiting for you!

This makes it necessary to be careful about one fact! Some iPod accessories are made simply by keeping the attractive side in mind. Such devices may not serve your purpose. The purpose of a case is to provide maximum protection to your first love, the mobile music player. Other accessories also have their own functions. So, buy the accessories giving priority to the usage, not to the show.

Lily Sienna worked as a sales manager in a mobile retail store in the UK. She has an in-depth knowledge about various makes and models of mobile phones, iPod and their accessories. The article given here covers the arena of iPod Accessories

Casablanca ceiling fans - Not All Fans Are Created Equal

If you think all ceiling fans were created equal, it is obvious you never met a Casablanca ceiling fan. If you are looking for a quality fan that has a lasting performance at a great price, take a look at a Casablanca ceiling fan.

A Casablanca ceiling fan has been designed and engineered with an eye to detail to provide you with a long lasting, high quality product. You will find the ease of installation and original designs more than you could have hoped for at such a great price.

When you buy a Casablanca ceiling fan, you will be content in the knowledge that your fan has been assembled from the highest quality parts and has been engineered to provide you with superior energy efficiency to help you save on the cost of your energy bills.

ceiling fans were once thought of as merely functional, but they have become so much more. They can be a decorative focal point in any room of your home. Casablanca has ceiling fans that will add comfort to anywhere people work or play. A Casablanca ceiling fan will work as efficiently in a demanding climate as it will in a temperate climate.

A Casablanca ceiling fan is suitable for use in areas like patios, verandas, kitchens and even in bathrooms. The most important factor is choosing the correct size fan for the room you intend to use it. If the ceiling fan is too large or too small, it may look awkward when installed. If you buy a ceiling fan too large it may overpower the room and if you buy a ceiling fan that is too small will not move the air enough to cool properly.

For maximum energy efficiency benefits, you will need to run your Casablanca ceiling fan counter clockwise in the summer and clockwise in winter. You can expect to save up to 40% on your air conditioning costs and up to 10% on your winter heating bill. You may say even more if you have a room with high or vaulted ceilings.

Start looking for an outlet where you can purchase a Casablanca ceiling fan. You will enjoy the beauty and cost benefits for a long time to come when you decide to install a Casablanca ceiling fan in your home.

Lego Mania - From Blocks to Bots

Who doesnt recall the excitement of hours spent as children surrounded by small interconnecting blocks called Lego Bricks building elaborate creations limited only by our imagination.

The story of this famous Danish icon reads like a Hans Christian Andersen fable.

In 1932, master carpenter and joiner Ole Kirk Christiansen, establishes a small business in the village of Billund in Denmark manufacturing stepladders, ironing boards and wooden toys. By 1934 the company adopts the name Lego for their products, formed from the Danish words LEg GOdt(play well). Not too long after the Lego company is the first in Denmark to buy a plastic injection-moulding machine for making toys. In 1948 the Lego Mursten (Brick) is born.

Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen (his surname accidentally misspelled on his birth certificate), the grandson of Ole Kirk is now CEO. The house where his father, Godtfred, grew up is now nestled amid the Lego Groups corporate buildings and the original Legoland theme park (there are now four) sits adjacent.

The basic eight-stud Lego brick hasnt changed, including the recipe for the plastic used. Almost every office and conference room at Lego HQ still contains a bowl of loose Lego bricks so that people can play during meetings.

What makes Lego bricks unique is that they click together and lock so that large structures can be built and still hold together. This design developed over time was so that a child could take a box of Lego bricks and create almost anything without it falling apart or toppling over. Instructions were never included so as to not restrict a childs limitless imagination.

But anyone who hasnt looked at Lego bricks since childhood may be in for a shock. Most modern Lego kits are so elaborate that they now come with a folder of step-by-step construction instructions.

To remain competitive Lego has adapted its history and values around simple child play to the technological world of Game Boy, Xbox and Playstation.

In 1999 in partnership with Lucasfilm Ltd., the company launched Star Wars themed Lego kits which became the biggest sellers in the companys history. Their success inspired Lego Bionicles - a combination of biological and chronicle, the most elaborate having hundreds of pieces, which in turn inspired a movie.

Lego Mindstorms take it all to the next generation. They let you design and program real robots that do what you want them to. With the Robotics Invention System 2.0, the core set of the Lego Mindstorms product range, you can create everything from a light-sensitive intruder alarm to a robotic rover that can follow a trail, move around obstacles, and even duck into dark corners.

Lego bricks continue to inspire not only 6 year olds but the child in us all. The web is awash with fan sites containing elaborate plans, sculptures and even films performed by Lego Brick actors.

Not bad for a product thats sold in pieces, and requires imagination and a childs touch to turn into into something amazing.

Interesting too that close by is the home of another well known product which leaves the factory in pieces requiring assembly IKEA.

Knowledge Management

Considering the dimensions of Knowledge Management within an organization it is not surprising at all to read of different ways of defining Knowledge Management or KM as it is referred to.

Before proceeding, it would be imperative to define the word knowledge within itself. Knowledge basically refers to a collection/ or a body of information. This could mean that the information is embedded in the form of theories, processes, and systems, or it could be voiced in form of opinions, theories and analysis.

When discussing Knowledge Management within an organizational context it would mean managing the collective information expertise in the form of employees and the organizational processes. This would encompass knowledge as an explicit business activity that reflects in the organizations business strategy, policy and practice at all the levels.

Keeping in view the aforementioned, we define Knowledge Management as business activity that attempts to build a direct connection between an organizations intellectual assets - be they in the form of employees (tacit) or in the form of record (explicit). Thus, Knowledge Management caters to the critical issues of an organization trying to adapt itself, survive and competence in face of increasingly sporadic environmental changes. Essentially, it means encompassing organizational processes that seek a synergy among a combination of data and information processing capacity of information technologies (http://www.eitpa.org/ ), and the creative and innovative capacity of it employees.

Hence in practice, Knowledge Management covers identifying and mapping intellectual assets within an organization, generating up-to-date expertise for competitive advantage, making vast amounts of corporate information accessible, sharing of best practices, and technology that enables managing all of the above including groupware and intranets. All this is crucial, because one of the most integral business activities is that of applying knowledge management at work.

Exploring Knowledge Management
As we further progress with the facets of Knowledge Management, highlighting a few well known management strategies serves as a better comprehending factor;
Business Process Reengineering
Change Management
Benchmarking
Risk Management
Employee Recommitment Management

There seems to be a common thread among these and many other recent business strategies and an acknowledgment that information and knowledge are corporate assets, and that the businesses need strategies, policies, and tools to manage those assets. The need to manage knowledge is obvious, as discussions on intellectual capital have burgeoned.

Because knowledge has become the single most important factor of production and survival, managing intellectual assets has become the single most important task of business.

Knowledge Management: An Organizational Necessity
Knowledge management is a framework within which an organization views all its processes as knowledge processes. In this view, all business processes involve creating, disseminating, renewing, and applying knowledge toward organizational sustenance and survival. In essence, it means that Knowledge management focuses on 'doing the right thing' instead of 'doing things right. The underlying premise is that 'best practices' of yesterday may not be taken for granted as 'best practices' of today or tomorrow. Hence, double loop learning, unlearning and relearning processes need to be designed into the organizational business processes Knowledge management is necessary for companies because what worked yesterday may or may not work tomorrow. To remain aligned with the dynamically changing needs of the business environment, organizations need to continuously re-assess their internal procedures of business for ongoing effectiveness.

Importance of Knowledge Management
Considering the management dynamics today the onus of managing knowledge requires utmost focus as most of the work is information based. Secondly, it is an undisputed fact that organizations compete on the basis of knowledge, since products and services are becoming increasingly complex. Hence the requirement for a life-long learning has become an unavoidable reality and thus Knowledge Management has become important because;
Marketplaces are increasingly competitive and the rate of innovation is rising
Downsizing staff creates a need to replace informal knowledge with formal methods.
Competitive pressures reduce the size of the work force that holds valuable business knowledge.
The amount of time available to experience and acquire knowledge has diminished.
Early retirements and increasing mobility of the work force lead to loss of knowledge.
There is a need to manage increasing complexity as small operating companies are trans-national sourcing operations.
Changes in strategic direction may result in the loss of knowledge in a specific area.

In brief, knowledge and information have become the medium in which business problems occur. As a result, managing knowledge represents the primary opportunity for achieving substantial savings, significant improvements in human performance, and competitive advantage.

Organizational Responsibility: Ensuring Knowledge Management
Organizations that are competitively conscious need to effectively implement knowledge management systems. This includes enforcing a linkage between the archived organizational 'best practices' and the actions taken by organizational members based on that information. Parallel to this also includes unraveling linkage between actions taken by organizational members that serve as a continuous check and balance for renewing the archived 'best practices.' This is where the intellectual organizational creativity and innovation comes into the picture.
